Let's be honest, if you're a visual person, product packaging matters. Commodity Goods first caught my eye with their minimal approach to product design, I mean heck, Pinterest alone is having a full scale love-affair with their design approach.
But, after looking further into their company, I realized their take on the Perfume industry and tailoring the product to the customer was a beautiful balance of form meeting function in a unique and groundbreaking way.
They got their start with a kickstarter campaign. Along with this, they invested their own funds into starting a company that offered "scent tailoring". Instead of being overwhelmed at a store trying to pick a scent, Commodity Goods allows you to purchase trials sizes of all their scents (10 for women or 10 for men) for $9.00. These samples are sent to your home where you can wear them, see how they work on your skin and then decide on your favourite(s) - the money you spent on the samples is put as a credit towards your order if you decide to purchase a scent.
I don't know about you, but receiving tangible mail is one of my favourite things. So, it's super exciting when the kit arrives on your doorstep with all the scents and the cards (to keep track of what you think of each one - genius)
After sniffing profusely (have your coffee beans ready for clearing your palate between scents), wearing and testing with friends, the clear winner for me was Gold - a unisex scent that was sweet, musky and rich.
Overall, I actually really liked the mens' scents quite a bit more than the women's. They were more unique combinations, more grounded and nostalgic for me. That being said every person is different and lots of women would probably love the women's scents.

MEN || WOMEN
*Gold is a unisex scent - both the men's and women's are the same
Honourable mentions to these scents that didn't make the top 3, but I still enjoyed:
*A note on shipping: Commodity is located in the United States and doesn't yet ship to Canada, as scents containing alcohol are hard to ship across a border. They are currently working on international shipping and hope to get it going soon!
