Well, here's to the end of a great Canadian Thanksgiving weekend!
Too much food, never enough company and amazing autumnal colours ushered us happily into the Fall season over the past three days. I'm so thankful for family, reciprocity in creative endeavours, the gift of having my love home for a holiday (which I can never bet on) and all the amazing people in my life who keep me going through trying times.
We filled this long weekend full of activities. When so many things are happening at once and time starts to blur together, you know that you're creating a lot of happy memories that will be even better to look back on.
We spent Saturday, just over the border, in Boundary Bay with a few friends. Sunny, crisp walks by the ocean with crunchy leaves under foot, colourful beach homes tucked in nooks & crannies, toasty, bundled porch hangs, fireside board games and stuffing our faces together- I mean really, what could be better?
Sunday was an indulgent day. We picked up ingredients from the local grocer for a "Pumpkin Cheesecake Mousse" to take to Tyler's family dinner that turned out to be decadent and even better than expected (recipe to come). I really love and appreciate that Tyler is so curious and interested to learn about everything kitchen related. He's taken a little shine to baking recently and having four hands in the kitchen is always better than two. We ate way too much, way too delicious food at dinner and then came home to drop into deep food comas.
Today, the holiday Monday, we put on out boots and braved the crowds to go out the the Richmond Country Farms pumpkin patch. When I was younger I always begged my dad to take me to the pumpkin patch and he'd always pick one of the gargantuan pumpkins for my brother and I. I love the smell of the dirt in the fields and the task of picking out the perfect, imperfect pumpkin. The produce is also amazing and we came home with tons of fruit and veggies along with our choice pumpkins.
I have so much to be thankful for. This weekend is tacked onto a never-ending list of things to keep in mind on days that are a little more challenging.
Hope everyone is well!
Oh and because our family dinners were this weekend, I chose to host my first turkey dinner next weekend so stay posted! If you have any turkey cooking tips to share my ears are wide open. I'm a little nervous, but mostly just excited!
